Sleep Comparisons: Evaluating Daily Rest Against Benchmarks
1 min read

Every baby has unique sleep needs, but tracking their daily totals against established national averages can offer helpful context for managing their schedule.
Infant sleep needs shift dramatically across the first two years of life. A newborn may sleep up to 16-18 hours a day, whereas a six-month-old typically settles into a range of 12-15 total hours, including daytime naps. If your baby's average falls securely within the benchmark range, it is a great sign that their current schedule is meeting their physiological needs. If their numbers sit slightly outside the baseline but they wake up happy, alert, and thriving, it simply means they fall into a naturally high- or low-sleep-needs category. However, if their numbers are significantly lower and they are consistently fussy, you can use this data as a starting point to adjust their wake windows or bedtime.
